The StrengthErg is powered by Concept2’s signature flywheel technology, which can be varied in intensity depending on the combination of damper setting and the effort produced by the user. The reactive nature of air resistance produces a variable load depending on the user’s strength.
A lower damper setting, or less air resistance, produces a lighter feel when pushing or pulling. A higher damper setting, or more air resistance, produces a heavier feel when pushing or pulling.
Advantage of Reactive Resistance
Another advantage of reactive resistance is that as your strength varies from point to point in a movement, the resistance reacts to accommodate. In traditional training, you can only put as much weight on the bar as you can lift at the weakest point in the movement, which may not be enough to challenge your muscles in the strongest part of the movement.
